RTP 1382 PPS

PPS can be extruded or blow molded, may be used to produce films and composites, and is an excellent candidate for fuel cells and diesel fuel cars.products have been specified in a wide range of injection molded applications such as automotive under-the-hood parts, power train components, pumps, fuel system components, surface mount electrical/electronics components, blower and pump parts, protective and non-stick coatings, surgical devices and power tools.

CD/MD-Player 

 In selecting the materials for this technical solution, the Japanese specialist in entertainment electronics together with Polyplastics （the affiliate in Asia） opted for two materials from : Vectra liquid crystal polymer （LCP） and polyphenylene sulphide （PPS）. In various CD/MD players for stationary hi-fi equipment, Sony uses moving magnets instead of the usual rollers. Sony refers to this type of drive as the A-MAX system （Advanced Moving Magnet 2 Axis）.

 

Vectra was able to meet the necessary requirements without any problem. For the lens holder, on the other hand, the important criterion was lightweight coupled with good rigidity to exclude any disturbing high-frequency resonances. Once again, Vectra LCP was able to meet the application requirements. For the slot for the CD carriage, Sony chose glass-fibre-reinforced . The high rigidity and strength of this easyflowing PPS from were crucial here.Vectra is used to produce the baseplate which is movable along two axes. In this application, a mechanical property profile tailored to the special operating conditions in a CD/MD player was required, i.e. high elastic modulus and high impact strength.

Domestic Water Supply Manifold

In Great Britain, domestic water consumption is usually estimated from the household size. However, the installation device for domestic water taps from the British company Atlantic Plastics allows simple connection of a water meter.

  

Other mouldings in the tap are also made from polymers. The shut-off lever and the connector consist of glass-fibre-reinforced Hostaform GV 1/30 owing to its high strength and rigidity. The slip properties of a Hostaform C 9021 K ball in the valve mechanism ensure long-term smooth operation. Finally, the retention clamps, which are subjected to extremely high mechanical loads, are injection moulded from 1140L4 reinforced with 40% glass fibre.In domestic water taps from Atlantic Plastics, a number of  materials ensure permanent smooth operation and freedom from leaks.

 

In collaboration with Hoechst Technical Polymers Division, UK, extensive FEM and mould flow studies produced a robust casing made from Hostaform C 2521. The demands made on such components are considerable. For example, the casing must withstand a pressure of 12 bar for 50 years and have correspondingly high creep and fatigue strength.
