PPS can be extruded or blow molded, may be used to produce films and composites, and is an excellent candidate for fuel cells and diesel fuel cars.

Baseplate for Video Recorder  

Despite the growth of the DVD player market, tape-based videocassette recorders （VCRs） retain an important share of market. Normal product lifecycle cost pressures have driven VCR manufacturers to develop continually lower cost designs for these devices. Typically, the VCR baseplate is produced by outsert molding, with various functional parts such as bearings, guides and fasteners being molded onto the baseplate in a single operation.

Engineers at Toshiba carried this concept even further by combining two different  materials – Hostaform acetal copolymer and  polyphenylene sulfide （PPS） onto the baseplate. Here the special advantages of these two different materials can be exploited simultaneously, making it possible to replace metal die-castings and reduce the number of assembly steps.

CD/MD-Player 

 Vectra is used to produce the baseplate which is movable along two axes. In this application, a mechanical property profile tailored to the special operating conditions in a CD/MD player was required, i.e. high elastic modulus and high impact strength. Vectra was able to meet the necessary requirements without any problem. For the lens holder, on the other hand, the important criterion was lightweight coupled with good rigidity to exclude any disturbing high-frequency resonances. Once again, Vectra LCP was able to meet the application requirements. For the slot for the CD carriage, Sony chose glass-fibre-reinforced . The high rigidity and strength of this easyflowing PPS from were crucial here.

In various CD/MD players for stationary hi-fi equipment, Sony uses moving magnets instead of the usual rollers. Sony refers to this type of drive as the A-MAX system （Advanced Moving Magnet 2 Axis）. In selecting the materials for this technical solution, the Japanese specialist in entertainment electronics together with Polyplastics （the affiliate in Asia） opted for two materials from : Vectra liquid crystal polymer （LCP） and polyphenylene sulphide （PPS）.
