LLDPE的生產(chǎn)起始于過渡金屬催化劑，特別是齊格勒（Ziegler）或飛利浦Phillips）類型?；诃h(huán)烯烴金屬衍生物催化劑的新工藝是LLDPE生產(chǎn)的另一個選擇方案。實際的聚合反應可以在溶液和氣相反應器中進行。

通常，辛烯與乙烯在溶液相反應器中共聚，丁烯。己烯與乙烯在氣相反應器中聚合。在氣相反應器中生成的LLDPE樹脂是顆粒形式，且可以粉料或進一步加工成粒料出售。以己烯和辛烯為基礎的新一代超LLDPE已由莫比爾、聯(lián)合碳化物。Novacor和道塑料等公司推出。這些材料具有很大的韌性極限，在自動取出袋的應用中有新的潛力。很低密度PE樹脂（密度低于0．910g/cc。）也在近年出現(xiàn)。 VLDPES具有的柔性且軟度是LLDPE達不到的。
